Copying Videos from Older Courses

Canvas instructors can copy video content from an older course to a new course using either Panopto Course Copy or batch copying of select videos manually. Please reference the flow chart below for help on deciding which option is right for you.

Flow chart showing the following flow: if you need to transfer all of your videos, use Panopto Course Copy. If you need most of your videos, use Course Copy and delete unneeded videos manually. If you only need a few videos, Batch Copy of those few videos is best.

Panopto Course Copy

Beginning Summer 2025, Panopto Course Copy will automatically copy your content when using Canvas Course Copy for the full course. Please review your Panopto course materials after the Canvas Course Copy to ensure that all transferred video content is FERPA compliant!

Check here for more information on what is and is not transferred between courses. Links to an external site.

Batch Copy

If you only need a few videos or you are not doing a copy of a previous course, the recommended path is to batch copy videos.

1. Open the original course from which you want to copy videos, and go to the Panopto Video section

2. Click the Arrow icon on the top right to Open in Panopto. This will open the course in the Panopto portal from which you can perform batch copies.

3. Click the checkboxes to the left of the videos that you want to copy. You can select multiple on the same page.

4. Click the Copy icon at the top of the screen
