Profile Pronouns

Faculty, Staff, and Students have the ability to associate their user profiles with pronouns. If a user selects a pronoun, the pronoun will display after the user’s name and appear in any course where the user is enrolled.

 

How do I add a pronoun?

To add/edit a pronoun, go to Account > Settings and click Edit Settings (right side). Select from the list of pronouns.

In the Pronouns drop-down menu, select your personal pronouns. Click the Update Settings button to save any changes.

Note: Only pronouns set by the University can be selected; users cannot manually add their own pronouns. 

 

View Pronouns

You can view your personal pronouns in your User Settings [1]. Your personal pronouns will also display after your name in areas throughout Canvas [2].

 

Where will pronouns appear?

Once a pronoun is selected by a user, the pronoun will display in the majority of Canvas course and user areas (as visible for each applicable role):

  • Course Sections list (instructor)
  • Student Context Card (instructor)
  • SpeedGrader (instructor)
  • Assignment creation menu (instructor)
  • Assignment peer review page (instructor)
  • User Navigation Menu
  • User Settings page/User profile page
  • Inbox
  • Discussions
  • Course People page
  • Groups People page
  • Comment Fields
