Panopto - Record and Store Media
UT Panopto Support - ET > Enterprise Learning Technologies
UT Support Contact: panopto@utlists.utexas.edu
Panopto is the easiest way to record and share videos. Upload and host your videos inside a Canvas course or post them on the web. Search inside videos for any word spoken or shown on screen (PowerPoint slides!).
Panopto Retention Guide - any video that has not been viewed in 15 months will be automatically archived; after 5 years, any unwatched videos will be deleted.
If students need to create content for classwork, instructors will need to create an Assignment Folder to allow student video submissions.

Getting Started
Without Canvas - Log in to https://utexas.hosted.panopto.com Links to an external site. with your UT EID.
Inside Canvas - Click on Panopto Video in the course navigation. If you don't see it, go to Settings > Navigation tab > Panopto Video > click to Enable > click Save.

Panopto in Canvas
Record videos and add quiz questions Links to an external site.
- Use a Panopto Quiz as a Graded Assessment (Submission Type = External Tool
Links to an external site.)
- Students must use the link in the assignment in order for their grade to be reported back to Canvas.
- If a user closes the video before taking the quiz or doesn't finish the quiz, nothing will be reported to Canvas and it will appear incomplete.
- If you embed a video with multiple quiz questions, they will be rolled up into one score and tracked as one grade (i.e., 20pt assignment with 4 questions each worth 5pts).
- It may take three to six hours for the student grades to populate into the Canvas gradebook.
Here is a study from the Journal of Chemical Education
Links to an external site. that shows video + embedded quizzing is better than video alone, for STEM learners.

Zoom to Panopto Integration
This integration will move a Zoom cloud recording directly into Panopto. The recording will then be deleted out of Zoom automatically and only be available in Panopto. Any Zoom cloud-recorded meetings you schedule through a Canvas course will automatically move to that course's Panopto folder (the cloud recordings will be removed from Zoom once the migration finishes). In addition, any meetings you schedule through the Zoom website or client for which you enable cloud recording will move to Panopto as well. These will appear in your Panopto user folder (My Folder). You can control it (disable it or re-enable it) from your Panopto profile (the drop-down next to your name at top right when you log in at https://utexas.hosted.panopto.com Links to an external site.).
