ePortfolio: Curate Your Work
Canvas ePortfolio is a great way to capture, organize, and curate your best work, your ideas, thoughts, and reflections inspired by your academic pursuits.
This tutorial will walk you through the basics of setting up an ePortfolio and submitting the URL for your ePortfolio to complete an assignment in one of your courses.
Step 1: Create an ePortfolio
After logging into Canvas, select your Account (1) from the global menu on the left side of your screen and from the resulting menu, select (2) ePortfolio.
You also have a personal Files panel (3) where you can store documents, images (this is where your profile photo is stored, FYI), and any other files you would like to store within Canvas. This is your private storage locker within Canvas. You have about 525MB, so be selective about what you keep there.
You can create a new ePortfolio using the "Create an ePortfolio" button in the upper right. Note that you can create as many ePortfolios as you wish.
After opening an ePortfolio (by clicking on the name of the ePortfolio) you will see a settings page. By default, your ePortfolio will be private.
If you are submitting your ePortfolio as part of an assignment, you will copy the private link indicated below.
Step 2: Add Content to Your ePortfolio
Start with your Home page (1) by selecting it from the left nav and then clicking the (2) "Edit This Page" button at the right. Your ePortfolio is basically a collection of blank web pages, which you'll be able to design and organize any way you wish.
Once in page editing mode, you'll be able to do the following:
(1) edit the name of the page
(2) add content to the page itself using the Rich Content Editor
(3) allowing comments for this particular page and deciding if you would like those comments to be public (in other words, say you have a professor that makes comments on your page and you would like her or him to see their previous comments the next time they visit this page--then you would want to check the "Make Comments Public" button)
(4) Preview how your page looks
(5) Use the "How do I...?" feature to get help
Submitting your ePortfolio to a Canvas Assignment
In Canvas, go to your course and open the assignment for which you must submit your ePortfolio URL (web address).
Select the "Submit Assignment" button in the upper right.
In the resulting panel, paste (1) the URL that you copied from your ePortfolio Settings panel in Step 1 above. You can leave comments to your instructor about your ePortfolio (2) if you wish.
As with other assignment submissions in Canvas, you will see a time-stamped confirmation that your assignment has been successfully turned in.
