Embedding Content from Google Drive
Embedding multimedia content from Google Drive has an advantages over embedding from UT Box.
You will always have access to your Google account, be it an UTMail gmail account or a private gmail account. (FYI, your UTMail account has no storage limit, your regular gmail account does.)
Step 1: Open Drive in your UTMail or private gmail account.
Open gmail and select the features grid (1) at top right and then (2) select Drive.
Step 2: Open Sharing Preferences for your media folder in Drive
If you don't have a media or video folder already created in your Drive account, create one using the red NEW button in the left margin of Drive.
Then select your media folder (1) where you will store all the media you're going to embed in your Canvas Page, Assignment, Announcement, Discussion, ePortfolio, or wherever else there is a content area in Canvas. Click the share button in the upper right (2) corner of Drive.
In the "Share with Others" panel, click on Advanced in the lower right.
Select the "Change" link on the Sharing Settings panel.
In the "Link Sharing" panel, select a level of access for this particular piece of content.
NOTE: If you're using UTMail and your level sharing is set only to those with a UTMail account, anyone trying to access your content without a UTMail account will be unable to do so.
The level of sharing below (1) is recommended (especially for ePortfolio users) and (2) don't forget to save your selection.
You will then click the "Done" button.
Step 3: Copy Embed Code for Media
Double-click (1) the piece of media for which you will copy the embed code.
The media will open in Drive, you must click on the "open in a new window" (1) icon in the upper right.
Select the (1) options button (three verticle dots) and choose (2) Embed item... You will notice the buttons in the upper right corner have changed (3) to include an information icon and your profile icon.
If you do not see these, you will not see the "Embed item..." as an option. Go back and repeat the previous directive to open the content in a new window.
In the Embed Item panel, click inside (1) the code window, the embed code will automatically highlight itself. Press the appropriate keyboard shortcuts (2) or however you copy items when computing to copy the embed code.
Step 4: Open Content Area in Canvas
This content area could be a Page, an Assignment, a Quiz, Discussion, ePortfolio, or Announcement. Click the Edit button (ususually in the right margin of whatever you're trying to edit) and then (1) select the option for the HTML editor.
Paste the embed code you copied from your Google Drive account into the (1) HTML editor. Note: If you are in the Rich Content editor, your video will not display properly. If you are in the HTML editor, you will see the option for the Rich Content Editor in the upper right.)
Don't forget to (2) Save your work!
The saved result will display your media if you've done everything correctly.
