Create an ePortfolio Assignment

The ePortfolio feature inside of Canvas has a come a long way since its introduction several years ago. There are many uses for this feature for students and instructors. Canvas ePortfolios are intuitive to create and, by default, are private. Students can make their ePortfolio public or choose only to share them with instructors and/or mentors.

Here are a list of use cases on UT campus right now:

  1. A showcase for student work in a specific course. Canvas ePortfolio allows students to convert anything that they have turned in for any course into a page within their ePortfolio.
  2. A multimedia journal. The Canvas answer to a student journal. Students can upload documents, images, and multimedia into their personal Files within their account. They can also embed media from Google Drive or UTBox or anywhere else on the web. For example, a student could record video and/or audio with their phone, upload to Google Drive and embed that content in an ePortfolio page.
  3. A curated portfolio of work and self-reflective media entries spanning a three year program. Canvas ePortfolios don't expire and students have access to them for as long as they are students at UT. If students would like to take their work with them, they can export their ePortfolio as a functioning HTML web page. In the meantime, students in this case use are including written self-reflective course work, as well as video journal entries recorded on their phones, based on prompts delivered by the instructor to delve deeper into topics for which they might say much more than they would ever write.
