Why is training important?

Trainings unlock access to various areas and tools within Texas Inventionworks. Many of our machines can be dangerous to use without proper training. Other trainings are designed to make your use of our tools easy and hassle free. In either case, trainings are required before you can use tools.

How do I get trained?

Most of our tools and equipment have both an online and in-person training element attached to them. The online trainings in this Canvas course cover the basics and safety procedures for each tool and equipment. Due to the high demand of student trainings we recommend you plan ahead and start your trainings early for any equipment you may need for assignments due later in the semester.

Here are the steps to get trained:

  • Step 1: Click on Culture & Community below and complete the module quiz to unlock the other trainings
  • Step 2: Click the training module you are interested in from the list below. You must pass the online training quiz before you can attend any in-person trainings.
  • Step 3: Once you complete the training module, you will be directed to a page with directions on how to attend or sign-up for an in-person training with that tool.

Interested in group trainings?

  • If you have a large group that needs in-person training on an equipment and are unable to have them successfully sign-up for their training here on canvas bookings, you can request a separate training for your group through this form. Links to an external site.  Please Note:
    • We ask that you submit your request at least 2 weeks before your training deadline. A staff member will try to respond to your request within 48hrs of your submission.
    •  In order to attend the in-person training, all participants must complete the online portion of the training (found here on Canvas)
    • FOR 3D PRINTING (BAMBU) - We hold trainings for the Bambu 3D printers Mon.-Fri at 12pm, 2pm, 4pm. These sessions are for walk-ins and no sign-up is required. However, if you are seeking training outside of our regular TIW hours for a special event, please fill in the form below.
