Using Panopto to stream live Zoom Meetings and Webinars
Using Panopto Webcasting as an alternative to Zoom Webinars
For cases where your Zoom audience may exceed the participant limits of your Zoom account, Zoom allows for external streaming of meeting video to external livestreaming platforms. Like Zoom Webinars, attendees joining from these external streams will not be able to share camera and microphone, but they will still be able to join in the live session.
Panopto is our recommended external streaming platform for Zoom, as you can:
- Leverage Panopto’s discussion features so stream viewers can still interact using moderated comments/questions.
- Customize your viewing permissions of the external streams to specific groups or people, which is not possible with YouTube, Twitch, or Facebook Live.
Setting up the Webcast in Panopto Links to an external site.
When setting up a livestream, we recommend opening Notepad or another text editor as you will need to copy and paste a few lines of text from Panopto to Zoom.
- In the Panopto portal Links to an external site., navigate to the folder in which you would like to place the livestream and recording. By default, the webcast will create a recording in that folder, but you can still use Zoom Cloud Recordings with or without the Panopto Integration
- Click +Create and select Webcast
- Name the webcast session and confirm by clicking Create
- Click the Manage tab on the left
- Under Webcast Type, select RTMP Source.
- Copy and paste the Server URL and Stream Keys and Types to your text editor
