MANDATORY: Selection of Book for Five-Page Paper

In the five-page paper, you will be analyzing in-depth one of the following books, understanding and demonstrating mastery of at least three topics or subtopics from the chosen book. Please choose one of the following books, which you will be reading to completion and writing about in-depth in nine weeks (by November 17th).

As you will be sticking to your selection for many weeks, please look over each text for a few minutes, read the introduction to the text, even consider looking at some reviews to see if the choice works for you. It is best to plan ahead and figure out what you prefer most now so as to best use your time to your full advantage.

• Jackie Ormes: the First African American Woman Cartoonist, by Nancy Goldstein
• From Krakow to Krypton: Jews and Comic Books, by Arie Kaplan
• Disability in Comic Books and Graphic Novels, edited by Foss, Gray, and Whalen
• The Blacker the Ink: Constructions of Black Identity in Comics and Sequential Art, (all chapters except 3, 8, 12, and 13) edited by Gateward and Jennings
