Science(Art) (an art show about science) Call for Submissions

Submission Deadline: April 6, 2015

The Texas Institute for Discovery Education in Science (TIDES) is pleased to present the inaugural group exhibition, Science(Art). This exhibition will focus on art about science. We are looking for original artwork that represents a scientific principle, a scientist(s), a scientific concept, or feelings about science. All artistic interpretations of the theme, from the realist to the abstract and conceptual, will be reviewed and considered. The exhibition will be held in the Welch Hall Grand Hallway from April 30-May 1, 2015.

 

ELIGIBILITY AND RESTRICTIONS
The competition is open to all undergraduate and graduate students currently enrolled at The University of Texas at Austin. All forms of painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, graphics, digital and installation art, video, etc. are eligible. Wall mounted works must not be taller than 4 feet or wider than 4 feet. Sculptural work must fit through a standard height, 36” wide entry door.

 

EXHIBITION AND AWARDS
Winning artists will be featured in a group exhibition in the Welch Hall Grand Hallway from April 30-May 1, 2015.

 

Two artists will receive non-monetary Awards of Excellence and five artists will receive non-monetary Merit Awards.

 

SELECTION PROCESS

Selection of artworks will be based on quality, creativity, and applicability to the exhibition’s theme. Selections will be based on the image(s) submitted, so please make sure that the image depicts a true representation of the artwork. Please also include a brief (1 page maximum) explanation of how your artwork relates to science. Selections are based only on the image and explanation. This writing may be displayed with your artwork in the exhibition. Notification of acceptance will be by email.

 

ENTRY PROCEDURES

Submit entries via https://utexas.instructure.com/enroll/H47LFT (You will be asked to enroll in a Canvas organization). Digital files should be saved in a universal .pdf or .jpeg format, and images should be between 1400 pixels and 4000 pixels, longest dimension at 300PPI (pixels per inch). If you are submitting a video, please provide the link from which the judges may access your work (i.e., YouTube). You may submit up to two (2) artworks for consideration. There are no entry fees, and artists accepted to the exhibition will not be charged additional fees of any kind. By submitting an entry, you are consenting to having a reproduction of your work used for promotion of the exhibition. You are also confirming the work entered is your own and that you have not incorporated any copyrighted images into your artwork.

Notification Date: April 17, 2015

Exhibition Dates: April 30-May 1, 2015
