Classroom Response Systems in Use at UT

Classroom Response Systems, also known as “audience response systems” or "clickers," have been used on the UT Austin campus for almost 20 years. Currently, iClicker [Classic] is the only system with a physical clicker. All of the other systems listed below are web-based and can be accessed on mobile devices.

•  Leverages Canvas Assignment, one gradebook column records performance/participation
•  Students can use the Canvas app for mobile or any web browser

iClicker Classic (remotes)

PRICING: Free for instructors | New remotes $50 from the COOP; used around $10

  • Runs on radio frequency; no WIFI needed
  • No recurring subscription. Once students purchase a remote, will work for as many courses/years 
  • Students cannot easily capture instructor’s content such as quiz questions, reading comprehension questions, or other course materials

iClicker Cloud

Free for instructors | Students $15/semester or $24/year or $33/2 years or $48/4 years

  • Participate in iClicker classroom activities on laptop, tablet, or smartphone via iClicker Reef web app
  • Students can review all of the questions asked during class. View the question images, responses, the correct answers, and how the rest of the class answered
  • Answer questions by tapping on an image or sending a tweet length response

Poll Everywhere

Free for classes less than 40 Students | Students $14/year OR Instructors $349/semester

• Easy Set Up and Use
• Can be used with participants who do not have a UT EID
• Integration with Canvas is tricky, but not impossible

Squarecap

Free for Instructors | Students $10/semester or $15/year or $40/4 years

• Excellent, on-campus support
•  Super easy set up and use for instructors and students
•  Very easy integration with Canvas

Top Hat

Free to Instructors | Students $29/semester or $46/year or $93/4 years

•  Easy integration with Canvas
•  1 on 1 instructional design/tech support from Top Hat
•  Robust feature set
•  Can be used in-class and online with Zoom
•  App for mobile + browser access
