An important aspect of project management is understanding whether your team is on track to finish as scheduled, whether you're behind, or whether you're ahead of schedule. The PM of the team should be monitoring this weekly (at a minimum) if not more frequently in order to sniff out project completion risk.

To determine whether you are ahead/behind/on track, you'll need to compare the percentage of work you've completed to the percentage of work you've planned to complete. We recommend calculating this using the number of tasks or components to quantify your work.  Each user story should already be set up in a way to be broken into smaller components or tasks.  Based on whether these parts are completed or not, you can come up with a rough estimate of the % complete of the entire user story.

For this assignment, include the following information in a Sprint Progress report:

  • Calculate your team's percentage complete and compare that number to the percentage you planned to have completed and in-progress at this point. Be sure to provide sufficient details behind this calculation so that it clearly ties back to your Trello Board.
  • Determine your project status:
    • GREEN = Ahead or on schedule and no issues
    • YELLOW = Behind planned schedule but have a plan to catch up
    • RED = Behind planned schedule and don't have a plan to catch up yet

For this assignment, please submit:

  1. Your calculations (using Excel, Word Table, or some easy to follow format) so we can see how you got your actual %
  2. Designate if you're currently GREEN, YELLOW, or RED.
    • NOTE: If you're YELLOW or RED, discuss with your team and come up with your next steps or plan to catch up and submit this as well.
