Exercise 1 - Make-up Info
NOTE: This info is intended for students who had extenuating circumstances that made them miss Day 1.
MIS 374 -- Information for students who missed the first day
- Contact your section's MIS 374 prof immediately that you intend to take MIS 374.
- Clint Tuttle – Please join the class Slack channel Links to an external site. and direct message him here
- Caryn Conley – caryn.conley@mccombs.utexas.edu
- Download, print, and read the Syllabus (Download here) Download (Download here) and In-Class Day 1 Case & Exercise Download In-Class Day 1 Case & Exercise on the Modules page under Day 1 on Canvas course page (see Day 1 section under Modules page)
- Read the Latinitas case and exercise instructions, which you missed. The case background for Latinitas is based on a client project in Spring 2007. It is also the basis for class discussion and in-class exercises during the first 7 class days.
- Read the step-by-step instructions for the group problem as well as the problem background. These instructions take you through a structured brainstorming technique, which we would like you to use in all future group projects.
-
For make-up credit for the first-day exercise turn in your own answers to items 2, 3 & 4 on page 4 of the exercise instructions. You will need to adapt these slightly like this:
- Write a list of at least 30 activities relevant for the Latinitas project—separate them by the Early, Middle, and “wrap up” categories on the class assignment.
- Write your own opinion about what the bottom line should be: could a team of 5 complete all activities in 10 weeks?
- List and explain at least two major risks for this project
- You will receive credit for this assignment if you turn in this Makeup Exercise 1 before the next class. (Either e-mail your answers to your section’s professor or turn it at the beginning of the next class.)
- Review the Class 1 Slides on the Modules page on the course Canvas page. Note the reading and assignments for each class day on the Modules page. (Some in-class exercises are turned in and some are not. Preparing them ahead will help you understand the material better and allow you to participate in class discussions.)
- Note on the Module page that there is Required Reading and an in-class exercise for the 2nd class day. You should complete the reading assignment on the Modules page on the web for the 2nd class day.
- Be sure to introduce yourself to your professor in class and e-mail that you are indeed joining 374. Anyone who does not contact us by the 2nd class day is assumed to be dropping the course since the first out-of-class group project begins on the 3rd class day which is listed on the Modules page.
