Competencies

When designing your courses to include collaborative learning, first think about the level of collaboration you want your students to achieve:

Just as preparing to climb a mountain needs different levels of skill and practice, so does teamwork. As the levels increase they become more multifaceted and the skills needed are more complex, each level building on the one before. When choosing the level of collaboration for your course, be aware of the amount of previous practice students have had in collaborating with other students and incorporate scaffolded activities for them to build a solid foundation. In each module we have identified the competencies needed for students to practice. Click on the buttons that you see in each module to read about some of the activities that you can do with your students to help them practice and hone their skills.

This table shows the six competencies, with the skills that you can incorporate into your course.
