Module 1: Pair Sharing - Activities

Examples of Sharing in Pairs Activities

Share Experiences, Generate Ideas

Give or Get Feedback

Explain, Articulate Ideas and Arguments

Student pairs discuss a time when they have….
Seen a full moon rise
Had a conflict of interest
Seen bubbles in water
Had a brilliant mentor
Share out and analyze the results.

Students individually write notes about a lecture/ article/video. They then compare main points they have written with their other pair. Discuss any discrepancies.

Students individually define a term e.g. family, wood, policy, then talk to their other pair. Compare definitions then discuss and rewrite definition.

Student pairs build a mind map together around a concept e.g. ethics, valiancy, The Constitution, poetry, hunger. Share concept maps on the doc-cam and discuss.

Students individually compile a table comparing two theories/policies methodologies they have heard about in the lecture or have read about. The pair spends 5 minutes looking at each other’s and give feedback.

Students are deciding on a research project. They bring 5 ideas each. Student articulates their 5 ideas to their other pair with the pros and cons of each idea and together they rate them.

Student pairs brainstorm an idea and record a solution either visually or in written form e.g. best way to study for an exam, how to afford nutritious food, list different factors to take into consideration when writing a survey.

Students individually write a paragraph e.g. summary, abstract, opening argument or outline. The pair spends 5 minutes looking at each other’s and give feedback.

After learning about a procedure in class, the students articulate the procedure to their other pair.

Students share reactions to resources or events, e.g. which paragraph was the most evocative and why, which is the easiest method to solve the equation.

In a lab setting one student performs a task while the other pair video records. They then watch together and talk about technique.

Students individually interpret a diagram, graph or paragraph. Explain to their pair what their analysis or interpretation is.
