Online/Hybrid Institute (Summer 2016)
The Faculty Innovation Center at UT-Austin is offering an Online/Hybrid Teaching and Learning Design Institute to help answer questions like:
- How do I create online opportunities to keep students engaged and learning together?
- What are some good ways to design online assignments?
- Are there best practices for delivering my lessons online?
- How will I know if what I’m doing in my class is working?
- What’s the best way to get started if I want to make my class hybrid or take it fully online?
This series of interactive working sessions will help you explore the key decisions and basic principles of learning design for online and hybrid.
To kick things off, we are offering a optional, informal lunch in the Faculty Innovation Center on Wednesday, July 13, 11:30am-1:00pm (in Sanchez 450), offering you a chance to meet and mingle with FIC folks and your workshop colleagues.
Below is the schedule for this summer:
- Week One (July 13-20), "Introduction to Hybrid/Online Course Design" and "Essentials of Digital Multimedia Production," Online (Canvas Course Site)
- Week Two (July 20-27) - "Drafting Your Learning Module" and "Digital Multimedia Principles and Design," Online (Canvas Course Site)
- Week Three (July 27-August 3), Module and Multimedia Production, (Online work and Scheduled Consultation with FIC staff)
- Week Four (Wednesday, August 3) - Showcase Session and Lunch (9:00am-1:00pm), Sanchez 450
During the weeks scheduled for these sessions, we'll discuss presentations focused on hybrid/online pedagogy and design while building learning modules and multimedia presentations. During the online weeks, FIC staff will be available via email and you may always ask to meet one of us one-on-one at anytime. We will then turn towards face-to-face consultation on your course designs and materials before having the option to present your work to others in the institute.
