We'll be editing our Python files in TextWrangler. Unlike working with mysql and phpmyadmin in the browser, we won't be copy and pasting our programs, we'll be saving our files to the server. We do this via SFTP, using the same username/password as we use for ssh on the commandline. In Fall 2015 that will be our iSchool user/pass, NOT our EID user/pass (unfortunately that is wrong on the screencast!)

Windows users have a few options, but if you are using Notepad++ you can use a plugin to get SFTP open/save. The plugin is called NppFTP.

Another option for Windows users is FileZilla. For an editor you should use either Notepad++, Sublime Text, or Atom. Atom seems to have a remote edit package which would enable you to work like in Text Wrangler.

(Remember to use iSchool user/pass rather than EID user/pass!)

In Python indenting plays a major role. But things can get confusing when mixing indenting with spaces and indenting with tab characters. We will set our text editors to insert 4 spaces when we hit the tab key, avoiding inserting tab characters. All programmer's editors can do this, but of course it depends on the editor.
